Non english url redirect

    Hi …
After changes were made to rank math, “err_too_too_many_redirects” errors started for non-English product categories in the url.
When rank math is off then everything is fine.
I tried to talk to the server company but I was told by them that they did not have the problem.
The debug redirection did not help me. I cleaned cash. Site name settings are correct.

    Hello

Thank you for getting back to us and sorry for the long wait.

Changing them to the remove category base is fine but then we do not recommend that you keep changing these links as per your linking as Search engines will notice and it might penalize your site.

In fact, it is something that should be done during the development stage so that Google initially indexes your site with your preferred URL structure.

As you have said, on Google search the references of the categories are pointing to 404s and this is simply because Google initially indexed your site with the Product Category base.

If this is the step you wish to take, then you need to update your sitemap on your GSC and then give Google some time to crawl your site again. Please make sure that the links in your sitemap are working before sending them to your GSC. You need to remove the current sitemap in GSC if the links there are having 404s.

Hope this helps. We are looking forward to helping you.
    Thank you.

I’m returning the original url then. So I’m with the first problem again. With the problem of non-English characters in the url leading to too many redirects error.

There any way to fix it?
And if it stay that way , with “new” url – what about the old internal links?

I have 9 names of product categories to change ane redirect (301?), In order for all categories to be in English.
The question is whether this is the best solution?
And Will it not harm the products and the internal links?
    Tnx

    Hello,

Thank you for getting back to us.

Changing the link structure of your links to English and performing the 301 redirects will be safe. Just make sure the same is replicated on the sitemap. Then delete the original sitemap from Google and upload the new one that has updated links.

Google will eventually see that the older URLs now have a 301 redirect and it completely understands that.

However, just before you do that please try troubleshooting this too many redirects issue by replacing the content of your .htaccess file with the default one from WordPress here: https://wordpress.org/support/article/htaccess/

We have tried accessing your FTP credentials but they weren’t correct. Do try and if it does not work then you can proceed to have the redirect in English.

We are looking forward to helping you.
    Thank you.

    Let us know this goes.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

The programmer tried to fix the htaccess file according to your link but without success.
I tried to build a new reference but it also failed – I opened a new category “hanging” and referred to it one of the problematic categories with 301, but without success.
I have meanwhile removed the Google map from the console.
I made sure the ftp details are correct.
    Thank you

    Hello,

Thank you for getting back to us.

Upon further checking into your issue here, just noticed that you have used several redirections on the אינטרפוץ or interfoot product category. In fact, you have set up the redirection of the same category both in different languages to the same encoded URL.

    See this screenshot: https://i.rankmath.com/1FYHEy

This should not be the way to do a redirection and it would definitely not work.

Moreso you have gone ahead and enabled the remove product category base which is another sort of redirection. This is the reason why there are many redirections occurring on the same link thus the error.

To avoid this, please deactivate the redirection for the אינטרפוץ or interfoot in the redirection list. If you wish to have only English URLs please do not redirect the same non-English URL to an English URL as the ID is the same.

Again enabling the option to remove category base should not be the case when you have non translated bases of your category. This will result in any link in your other language hitting a dead end.

The redirect for removing the category base will work if it is defined in the permalinks settings for both English and non-English bases.

Also noticed that once this is all disabled there is another redirection of your product category אינטרפוץ or interfoot to a single product linked here: https://www.sharon-ceramic.co.il/%d7%90%d7%99%d7%a0%d7%98%d7%a8%d7%a4%d7%95%d7%a5-3-%d7%93%d7%a8%d7%9a-%d7%96%d7%94%d7%91-51304-%d7%a9%d7%95%d7%a0%d7%99/

This should be checked if you have implemented any other redirection since its not in the Rank Math redirection list. This can be cheked from your host end or if you have another redirection plugin.

Also make a point of checking it in the .htaccess file as well.

Regarding the FTP Credentials, they are still not working on my end. They respond with this error:

Error:	Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity
Error:	Failed to retrieve directory listing

If you do not mind you may want to reach out to your host to help you set them up.

Please follow through with this guide slowly to see the flow of the redirections causing the too many redirects error. You may opt to turn off these options one by one to resolve this issue.

We are looking forward to helping you.
    Thank you.

I created the second reference )hanging) – Not that. The first one was made by the programmer. But it doesn’t matter anymore ..
The login details were sent to me from the server so I have nothing else.
I’m tired of trying so I’ll leave the “product-category” base and update the Google map.. and thats it.. Do I need to update any internal links? Redirect?

    Ok.
So because some of the categories are over 10 years old- I was asked to find another solution.
I decided to open 9 new categories in English and move the products from the problematic categories (which are a minority) over there. These are about 100 products.
I tried 2 categories and it went fine, just need to fix the internal links.

    And another question please ..
what should I do with the old categories?
After all, I can not make references to them. Now they will be empty of products and not associated with anything.
    Tnx!

    Hello,

Thank you for getting back to us.

I tried 2 categories and it went fine, just need to fix the internal links.

Would you mind clarifying how you want to fix these internal links. Am assuming you mean changing the internal links which were non-English categories to the newly created English categories. For this, you may have to do it manually in every section that exists.

what should I do with the old categories? After all, I can not make references to them.

The old categories, in this case, can either be redirected via 301 if they are not showing the error. This is to help pass the link juice previously created with these links.

In case they still show the too many redirect error you can do 410 redirections to indicate that they are gone.

Hope this clarifies your question. Please do let us know if you have any other questions for us.

    Hi.
I finished with the products and categories.
I finished with the fix of the internal links.
Regarding references 301 and 410 – I still get too many redirect errors.

    Hello,

Thank you for getting back to us.

If you do not need these URLs anymore you can do a redirect from the affected URL to the newly created URL.

But since your link had the too many redirects error I have deactivated it in the redirections list and then created a new 301 redirection to the new English URL as shown here: https://i.rankmath.com/cPrHZH

However, this will only work for non-encoded links (faucets/אינטרפוץ). Any encoded link (faucets/%d7%90%d7%99%d7%a0%d7%98%d7%a8%d7%a4%d7%95%d7%a5/) will still have the error. In this case, we do recommend that you remove them.

Hope this clarifies your point. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Hi.
I waited a week to see how things develop.
A week ago I deleted the problematic url, when nothing is associated with them, and the site itself runs smoothly.
I also deleted the map from Google Console and sent a new one.
A week has passed and according to the google search console the map has been processed but the pages have not been indexed. Even the home page is not indexed.
The site’s ratings – according to the consul – crashed – from a few thousand a day to a few dozen. I’m trying to figure out if enough time has passed and i need to request a new index, or did I do something wrong? No cash on the map. I sent exactly as instructed – as at other times.
    Tnx!
