For any other user who could face this, in Rank Math Redirections panel you had that the default fallback behavior was to send the user to the homepage. I changed it to send the user to a 404 page (since the other option seems to be conflicting with some plugin in your installation) and cleaned the cache. After that, everything was working fine.

To avoid any effect on your site SEO, you can use the 404 monitor in Rank math to monitor and redirect any 404 clicks in your site.

You need to check it every few days just to be sure there are no 404 errors and if they are, just create the right redirections.
