Wrong Title & URL Shown in Google Images – Image Ownership Mismatch

    Hello Rank Math Support,

I’m encountering a persistent issue with Google Images indexing on my site using Rank Math.

🔹 The images are indexed correctly, but Google displays the wrong title and URL underneath them.
🔹 The title and link shown belong to a different post, not the one the image is actually attached to.
🔹 Each image on my site is unique and only used in one post.
🔹 I already use Rank Math’s og:image and twitter:image meta tags. I’ve also ensured that the image appears inside the post with a direct structure.
🔹 I’ve disabled lazy loading and included featured images in the sitemap.

However, Google still mismatches the image with a totally unrelated post title and link.

🔧 Is there any Rank Math-specific way to force Google to link the correct image-title-URL together in the Open Graph / Schema / Sitemap setup?

I’d appreciate any advanced advice or filters/snippets to resolve this ownership conflict.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with Google Images displaying the wrong title and URL for your images. This can be frustrating, especially when you’ve taken steps to ensure everything is set up correctly.

Here are a few things you can check and try:

    1. Ensure Correct Open Graph Tags: Make sure that the og:image tags are correctly set for each post. You can verify this by checking the page source of your posts to see if the correct og:image tag is present.

Find og:image in the page source

    2. Schema Markup: Ensure that your schema markup is correctly implemented. You can use tools like Google’s Rich Results Test to check if your images and their associated data are being recognized correctly.

    3. Image Alt Text: Make sure that each image has a unique and descriptive alt text. This can help Google understand the context of the image better.

    4. Sitemap: Since you mentioned that you have included featured images in the sitemap, ensure that your sitemap is submitted to Google Search Console and that it is up to date.

    5. Google Search Console: Use Google Search Console to check for any indexing issues or errors related to your images. You can also request a reindexing of your pages if you have made significant changes.

    6. Wait for Reindexing: Sometimes, it may take time for Google to update its index after changes have been made. If everything seems correct, it might just be a matter of waiting for Google to re-crawl your site.

If you’ve checked all these aspects and the issue persists, we recommend reaching out to our support team directly through your ticket. A human agent will be able to provide more advanced assistance tailored to your specific situation.

Thank you for raising this concern, and we hope this information helps you resolve the issue!

    Hello,

Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.

Please note that we have no way of controlling the images and the information shown in search results. The Google Search algorithms select the image’s information as it believes it would benefit the users. The image optimization in our plugin will increase the odds for Google to pick up the alt/title as set for your images but the final alt text to be used still depends on Google. Make sure the alts and titles for your images are relevant for the search intent.

You may refer to Google’s official guide on optimizing the images here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/google-images

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any other questions.

    Hello,

Since we did not hear back from you for 15 days, we are assuming that you found the solution. We are closing this support ticket.

If you still need assistance or any other help, please feel free to open a new support ticket, and we will be more than happy to assist.

    Thank you.
