Wrong Meta Data

    Hi,

After installing and setting up RankMath, I have noticed that the meta date on some pages does not update on the front end. I have double checked meta data on the backend and it looks okay, but on the front end, old meta data is still showing.

Here’s the page for example that has meta data issues.

    https://snookerfreaks.com/news/

I have already tried purging cache and troubleshooting through the health check plugin. I disabled all the themes and plugins to check, seems like the issue is with RankMath. Please feel free to take a look. I have included info in sensitive data section.

    Thanks!

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Can you please check when the Google cache was updated for that page?

    2. https://i.rankmath.com/R8N0Uh

If the cache date is from before adding the new meta description, then you just have to wait for Google to re-crawl and re-index the page with the new info. If the date is after you made the changes, the next step is to check if your title/description is properly set up in the page source:

If it matches your settings, there is nothing else you can do as Google shows the title/description tag according to the search intent.

The best you can do is optimize your meta tags to try and match the intent of the search/keyword.

You can read more about it here

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi,

It is not a google indexing issue sir. I made the meta data changes months back and forgot about it, thinking RankMath will do its trick but it didn’t.

I have already made sure that google is indexing the page and also checked the page source.

Problem is that, the meta data changes that I made on RankMath backend doesn’t change anything on the page source, hence it doesn’t change anything on google index.

    Please help!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Your site doesn’t seem to load the meta description property as seen in the screenshot below:

Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes, it seems like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

    Looking forward to helping you.

For more clarity, here’s an example of whats going on.

    == Old metadata for page: https://snookerfreaks.com/news/ ==

Meta Title in page source: News Archives – Snooker Freaks
Meta Description in page source: NIL

== Rank Math SEO Setup for this page ==

Meta Title: Snooker News – Snooker Freaks
Meta Description: Stay updated with the latest snooker news and headlines. Get breaking snooker news stories, videos and daily snooker updates here.

No matter what I do, the page source only shows the old default metadata instead of showing the custom metadata that I have set on the backend of this page. I have tried disabling all other plugins and themes, enabled RankMath only and it still shows the old metadata.

And this issue is only happening on 2 pages on my site, News and Blog. All the other page sources respond to metadata changes normally.

    Hope that clarifies my problem.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

I made changes on your news page schema type (to Article) and article type(to news) and that seems to have solved your issue as you can see:

You can do the same for the blog page and see if the issue is resolved.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi,

You shared screenshot of the homepage which was already showing proper metadata.

Also, the changes you made had no impact on the metadata of the news page. And the blog page SEO box doesn’t have an option to change schema type.

    Hi,

I have looked more into it. The problem is only with the news and blog pages on my site. All the other pages are working fine with RankMath, meaning that any metadata changes in the backend shows immediately in the source code of the pages. Except for these 2 pages:

    https://snookerfreaks.com/news/
    https://snookerfreaks.com/blog/

No matter what I do, these two pages don’t show the metadata that I set on RM.

I have tried troubleshooting too through Health Check. Disabled all themes and plugins except RankMath and the source codes of the 2 pages mention above still showed the wrong meta titles and descriptions instead of showing the ones that I have set in RankMath.

I have already followed guides and other support forums before posting here. I’d appreciate if you could have an expert take a look into my site. I have shared the credentials in sensitive data for that reason.

I know SEO and WP enough to troubleshoot such issues myself but this is unusual. I have been using Yoast SEO since years and never had any such issues. I really like RM over Yoast but this issue is driving me crazy now.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

The two categories that you have shared are missing meta description on the Rank Math metabox as shown below:
    Screenshot

Please enter a term description or a manual description to fix this.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Wait, what?

I don’t know why its showing an empty metabox to you while my view is totally different. The metabox I see is filled up with meta title, description and tags – on both pages mentioned above. I’d share a screenshot if there was an option.

I don’t know what’s going on man. Should I delete and install RM again? Can I do that without losing my data?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us today.

I think the problem is that you have both a page and category sharing the same names ie news and blog. I can suggest that you rename the two categories to fix this.

    I hope this info helps.

Sorry I don’t understand. Can you please explain?

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the follow up.

Clicking on the below links takes me to a category page and not pages:
    https://snookerfreaks.com/news/
    https://snookerfreaks.com/blog/

    This takes me to :
    https://snookerfreaks.com/wp-admin/term.php?taxonomy=category&tag_ID=470&post_type=post
    https://snookerfreaks.com/wp-admin/term.php?taxonomy=category&tag_ID=469&post_type=post

The above categories are sharing the same URL with the following pages when the strip category base option is enabled:
    https://snookerfreaks.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=2545&action=edit
    https://snookerfreaks.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=810&action=edit

I hope this info helps. Thank you.

    Hi,

This fixed my issue. I renamed my categories and everything is good now. Thanks a lot. Appreciate your help! 🙂
