    Hello,

we´re facing with the issue that woocommerce don´t shows the right meta descriptions. We defined a template in the rank math settings but the output is a 400 character excerpt of the product search description.

Any ideas how to fix that?

To fix it fast we manually edited all products and put the template manually into it. But that is no long term solution because other people should edit the products as well.

    Thanks for your reply

    Hi Max,

Can you please check when the Google cache was updated for that page?
    1. https://i.rankmath.com/9q6X0H
    2. https://i.rankmath.com/R8N0Uh

If the cache date is from before adding the new meta description, then you just have to wait for Google to re-crawl and re-index the page with the new info. If the date is after you made the changes, the next step is to check if your title/description is properly set up in the page source:

You can use this tool for the same as well: https://www.heymeta.com/

If it matches your settings, there is nothing else you can do as Google shows the title/description tag according to the search intent.

The best you can do is optimize your meta tags to try and match the intent of the search/keyword.

You can read more about it here

This section sheds light on that:

I´M sorry, but the problem is not the google cache. TI see it in the raw html output of my website and I also see it in the preview of your plugin.

    Hi Max,

This is the order we follow to generate meta descriptions for WooCommerce product:
    1. Content from SEO Description field
    If that is missing, then:
    2. WooCommerce Excerpt or Product Short Description
    If that is missing, then:
    3. Template From General Settings in WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Products
    If that is missing, then:
    4. Auto generated Content from the product page

You can use this filter to override WC excerpt and use the Global template https://rankmath.com/kb/filters-hooks-api-developer/#use-global-meta-description

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thanks for your info.

I think it´s very dangerous for woocommerce stores eo if you just take the excerpt for default … there is a reason why people make templates in the settings. Maybe you can fix that in a following version of rank math.

The filter from the page you´ve send doesn´t work for me. Any ideas what to do?

    Thanks

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the follow up.

The code shared by my colleague will only work on the frontend and thus you won’t see the changes on the preview when editing your products.

Please inspect your product pages using the browser’s developer tools and check if the description has taken effect.

    Thank you.
