I understand where using Article type schema would be beneficial but unsure what type of posts I would use post type schema for? Is it mainly just short blog posts or listicles etc? Some examples would be great thanks

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention.

You can use the Blog Post for your article type if you will be posting content regularly. Blog Post for your article type should be the best fit for your content if it only contains short content.

For Google, “Article” and “Blog Posting” is the same (even when having those two Schemas) so you can use whatever option you prefer.

Personally, I like to use Blog Posting for posts and Article for pages.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Thanks for your response.

But most of my blog posts will be articles with long-form content so it is better to add Article schema right?

Also, why would you add Article schema to pages if they are just pages? and not articles?

    Hello,

As mentioned by my colleague, you can use the Blog Posting schema and the Article schema interchangeably. But as they’re blog posts, you can continue using the Blog Posting schema.

Depending upon the page’s content, you can use different types of schemas. Article schema can be used in different places.

For pages, if they do not contain any special data, then you can either use the Article schema or set the schema to none.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.

I am have currently set schema type to none for most of my pages, so it is interesting to hear that Article schema could potentially be used.

I guess Article schema could be used on a regular page if it is optimised with a lot of content right? But if it is not optimised with a lot of content then there is no need to set any schema type to it.

Also what would the objective of article type schema be for a regular page if it is not an article?

You also mentioned that for pages that do not contain any special data, what do you mean by special data?

From what I have gathered post type schema can be used for blog posts that may be under 1000 words whereas article type schema can be used for long-form content where the word count is above 1000 words, but you are also saying that even for articles (long-form content) there is no advantage to using article type schema over post type schema?

Do you perhaps have an information page that explains this in-depth?

    Thanks

Yes, this is correct. As I mentioned in my previous reply, if pages do not contain any special data, then you can either use the Article schema or set the schema to none.

The Article Schema is a sort of “default” Schema if you want to call it that. The BlogPost and NewsArticle are more specific iterations of the Article Schema.

Also what would the objective of article type schema be for a regular page if it is not an article?

There’s no particular objective about this but rather a sort of fallback Schema if none of the available ones seem to suit your page and you still want Schema markup.

You also mentioned that for pages that do not contain any special data, what do you mean by special data?

By special data, I meant data/content that relates to a specific type of schema.

There’s no advantage of using Article vs Blog Posting, as they both get the same exact rich results so you can use them interchangeably.

You can read more about the schema in this tutorial guide:

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.

Thats perfect thank you for your answer
