    Dear Rank Math Support Team,

I am writing to seek assistance with an issue I’ve encountered since installing the Rank Math SEO plugin on my blog. Following the installation, my entire website is now returning 404 errors.

Before installing Rank Math, I was using the Yoast SEO plugin and had not experienced such issues. I ensured that the settings in Rank Math were configured similarly to those I had in Yoast, but the problem persists.

Here are the details of the issue:

Occurrence of the Problem: The 404 errors started immediately after the installation of the Rank Math plugin.
    Previous SEO Plugin: Yoast SEO.
Settings: I mirrored the settings from Yoast SEO to Rank Math, expecting a seamless transition.
Website Impact: The issue has affected the entire site, rendering all pages inaccessible.
I am keen on using Rank Math for its features and benefits, but this critical issue is impacting my website’s functionality. I would appreciate any guidance on how to resolve this without having to revert to the previous plugin (Yoast SEO).

Could you please advise on the following:

Diagnostic Steps: Any specific steps I should follow to diagnose the issue more accurately.
Common Issues: If there are any known conflicts or settings adjustments that might resolve this.
Technical Support: If possible, could I get direct technical assistance to review my setup?
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a swift resolution so that I can continue to use Rank Math without further impacting my website’s accessibility.

    Best regards,
    Matteo Angloni

  • Hello,

We apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing with the 404 errors on your website after installing the Rank Math SEO plugin. We understand the importance of resolving this issue promptly to ensure your website’s functionality is restored.

It seems that you have mirrored the settings from Yoast SEO to Rank Math, expecting a seamless transition, but the problem persists. We appreciate your keenness to use Rank Math and would like to assist you in resolving this critical issue without having to revert to the previous plugin.

To diagnose the issue accurately, we recommend following these steps:

    1. Check 404 Monitor Module: Ensure that the 404 Monitor module is enabled in Rank Math. You can do this by navigating to Rank Math SEO → Dashboard from your WordPress dashboard and enabling Advanced Mode at the top-right corner of the page. Once done, enable the 404 Monitor module.

Enable Rank Math 404 Monitor module

    2. Clear 404 Log: If the 404 errors persist, you can try clearing the entire 404 log in Rank Math. Navigate to Rank Math > Status & Tools > Tools > 404 Monitor and click on the “Clear” button as shown below.

      Clear the entire 404 log

If after following these steps, the issue persists, please let us know, and we will be happy to provide further assistance. If you require direct technical assistance to review your setup, please assign this ticket to a human agent using the available buttons, and we will promptly review your setup to resolve this issue.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, and we look forward to helping you resolve this issue swiftly.

    Best regards

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support.

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

The issue persists even when Rank Math is disabled. Here is a quick screencast to confirm that: https://i.rankmath.com/v/S9LjLH

The issue is not related to our plugin. You should check with your host, as all your site’s URLs are returning a 404 status code. You can also follow this troubleshooting guide to confirm if the issue is related to a plugin: https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

I have already talked to happyness engeneer and they told me that the “fault” is yours

    Hello,

We tried disabling the plugin to see if Rank Math really caused the 404 issue but the 404 issue persists (even after flushing the caches) so we conclude that the issue is happening outside Rank Math.

Please note that once Rank Math is disabled, the entire functionality of our plugin is no longer active and that includes link modification such as the removal of the base slug URL.

We strongly suggest conducting the troubleshooting guide my colleague shared previously as that will narrow down the number of plugins that could be causing the issue.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any other questions.

I tried to follow the guide. Only, when I enable the diagnostic mode, it does a refresh and it auto-diabilises

    Hello,

In that case, you would have to check for plugin conflicts by manually disabling all your plugins and activating a default WordPress theme to see if the problem persists, then you can activate your plugins one after the other to see which is causing the issue.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation

    Hello,

    Thank you.
