URLs not updating

    Hi all,

I have had to update the permalink structure on my site (dropping trailing slash). It appears that the RankMath sitemap index has not been updated to reflect this. The last modified date on that is 4 days ago. Please can you advise? I have cleared the WP cache. This is the index in question:

  • The only thing I can think of that is different, is that the Opera broswer has a built-in VPN – have no idea if that is helpful or not, but it’s the only thing I can think of, but it still doesn’t help me work out how to resolve even if it is significant. Any ideas?

    Hi Michael,

So, we had determined that this is cache related issue – either server or CDN. Even the cURL test you ran shows the sitemap updated correctly.

You can use a VPN to test from other countries and you will see that the sitemap has been updated correctly.

Thank you Todd, thanks for getting back to me. I have been struggling to get this to work. As I mentioned I could only view it in Opera, which has a built-in VPN. I tested this morning by turning off the VPN in Opera, and guess what, the sitemap reverted back to the 15th Feb one. Interesting. I have cleared the cache generated by the EasyWP plugin (which I can’t turn off – it ships with the EasyWP package), so I will see if there is a way to clear the CDN, and let you know. I had no idea this could even be an issue. Learning a lot about issues during this site build that’s for sure.

    Hi Michael,

One thing is certain though, the sitemap is updating correctly. You just aren’t able to see it for some reason in the country you are from.

    Hi Todd,

I’m glad it’s updating correctly. I have spent the morning to’ing and fro’ing with namecheap support and not got anywhere. So I disabled the cdn, reverted the dns records and the sitemap is now showing as you see it. Thank God for that. I swear I am going to have no hair left at all after this site build is done (if it will ever be done!). Thank you for your help.

Can I ask – is a CDN vital for speed and security? Or is it fine to run the site without one?

My researching the problem has dug up this article, which may or may not have something to do with it:

    https://yoast.com/help/xml-sitemaps-nginx/

I have written to Namecheap to find out.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for getting back to us.

A CDN is crucial for performance but the guys from Namecheap are in a better position to advise on this.

Please let us know if we can help further 🙂
