Unwanted 401 Redirects

    Hi

    I recently changed themes. In this process there are pages that should now be 404’s, which is fine.

    My problem is that these 404’s are automatically redirecting to various live pages on my site.

    I dont these pages redirecting, as I would just like to leave them as 404’s

    I have always had the Fallback Behavior setting set to – Default 404

    Can you give me some advice please?

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

    Could you please check if you imported some redirections to your .htaccess file that might still be in effect?

    It would also help if you could try to reproduce this problem when the Rank Math redirection module is disabled.

    Thanks for getting back to me.

    I don’t see anything untoward in the htaccess, but I’m not really sure, so I uploaded it here.

    I have switched off the redircetions module and purged my cache (This site uses nitropack) but when I try one of the URL’S that I sent they still don’t 404. They are redirecting.

    Thanks a lot for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.

    It doesn’t look like this is added by Rank Math as even when Rank Math is disabled – the redirections are still, well, redirecting.

    It seems like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using. To determine that, can you please follow this troubleshooting guide?

    Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.
