    Hello,

I am unable in my knowledge to figure this out and maybe you have a clue.

Everyday I get hundreds…..going into the thousands of a particular 404 error I cannot get my head around.

Maybe you have seen this before.

    See image attached 404 errors

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the numerous 404 errors. It can indeed be overwhelming to deal with such a high volume of errors.

404 errors typically occur when a page or file cannot be found on your server, which can happen for various reasons, such as broken links, deleted pages, or incorrect URLs being entered.

To monitor and fix these 404 errors effectively using Rank Math, you can follow these steps:

    1. Access the 404 Monitor: Go to the Rank Math dashboard and navigate to the 404 Monitor section.
    2. Review the Errors: Check the list of 404 errors to identify which URLs are causing the issues.
    3. Fix the Errors: You can either redirect these URLs to relevant pages or remove any broken links from your site.
    4. Clear the Monitor: Once you have addressed the errors, you can clear them from the monitor to keep your records clean.

For detailed guidance, you can refer to our article on How to Monitor 404 Errors with Rank Math.

If you continue to experience difficulties or if the errors are related to specific URLs that you cannot identify, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern!

    Hello,

The screenshot link you have shared is not working.

However, please note that we only report 404s, and we do not have information on how or why they are generated.

You can get further insight into them by enabling the advanced monitor at WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > 404 Monitor:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/monitor-404-errors/#advanced-404-monitor

That will give you more information like referrer and user-agent. You can use that information to track down the source or find out if it is just bots generating those errors.

You can also add them to the exclusion list at WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > 404 Monitor > Exclude Paths.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Exclusions do not work. Cannot get the culprit but there are literally thousands 404 errors…everyday.

    Hello,

While we can not see the image you shared in the first post, it sounds like your site might be targeted by malicious bots.

You can install a security plugin like Wordfence or Sucuri to block malicious traffic.

You can also implement CAPTCHA on forms and login pages.

However, it is best that you contact your hosting provider as they may provide additional support or security measures.

    We hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Thanks
