unexpected 404 attachment-sitemap.xml in sitemap index

  • Resolved Shawn X.

Recently a attachement-sitempa.xml started showing up in my sitemap_index.xml, and it also ends up in 404. I haven’t changed RankMath’s sitemap settings. Not sure what brought that up. How can I fix that?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

This is quite unexpected. Could you please head over to Rank Math > Sitemap Settings > Media and ensure that the option to include in sitemap has been disabled. You can then do the following:

    1. Head over to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks

    Hit the save button once.

    2. Go to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Sitemap Settings

    Hit the save button once.

    That should fix the issue.

If it doesn’t, please do let us know so we can look at this further.

I tried the instructed steps, the problem remains.

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

We really look forward to helping you.

I updated RankMath plugin to the latest just now, and the issue is gone 🙂

    Hi Shawn,

I am glad that this is now resolved 🙂
