  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

It seems that you have marked this ticket as already resolved. Could you please confirm?

However, I’ve reopened it as it seems that your sitemap index is not coming from Rank Math. Please check if you have a physical file in your website directory. If so, Rank Math generates the sitemap virtually, so you may need to remove those from your website’s files.

Let us know how this goes.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    Thank you for writing.
I can see only one file (sitemap.xml) in the root directory.
But the Google Search Console has picked up sitemap_index.xml. I don’t know from where.
    Please help.

    Thank you

    Hello,

Rank Math generates the sitemap file dynamically, it is not added to the website files.

The Rank Math sitemaps are accessible at yourdomain.com/sitemap_index.xml.

However, I checked the sitemap, it is not generated by Rank Math.

Please remove the sitemap files from the website root directory. Once you delete the file, Rank Math will generate the sitemap.

    Hope this helps.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    Hello,

I still cannot see the file (sitemap_index.html) after deleting the sitemap.xml in my root directory.
Do I need to reinstall the plugin?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

No, you don’t need to reinstall the plugin.

The sitemap might be generated by some other plugin.

To determine that, you can follow this guide:

If the issue persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
