Umlauts not handled by rankmath

    Rank Math free

I’ve installed the rankmath plugin in a test environment and soon found that it does not work when using a richer alphabet than english a-z. It does not even handle HTML umlaut notation. Please be clear about rankmath only working in the english language.

    Example:

A swedish woocommerce product description is (in html):

<p>Tycker du också om att spela? Trevliga nyckelringar i form av små tärningar. Finns i färgerna blå, grön, gul, röd, svart och vit.</p>

which rankmath via (single product description) %excerpt% wants to present to google as:

Tycker du ocks om att spela? Trevliga nyckelringar i form av sm trningar. Finns i frgerna bl, grn, gul, rd, svart och vit.

A clue for non swedish speakers: every single word in swedish contains at least one vowel (just as english words do).
The missing letters above are all the umlauts.

This is not SEO, this is SEUO, Search Engine Un-Optimization.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I tried to re-create this from my end, and I tried my end with %excerpt%. I set my product description by using your HTML description, and it appears to be showing:
    https://i.rankmath.com/D3R34A

Then I checked the source code description, and it shows that it is also showing correctly.

This is likely that it has something to do with your database encoding. You can try it with a different site and check if you can reproduce it.

I hope this helps you with your issue. Let us know if you need anything else.

Well, your forum translates html so my post did not show how it really looks. Descriptions was using html rewrites of the umlauts as in https://dev.w3.org/html5/html-author/charref here is the image of it

    And here’s the result

Although it seems to be an error only in the desktop preview in rankmath and not in the actual page itself

    Hello,

Thanks for getting back to us.

We do not convert all diacritics, that’s something we are going to do, but it’s a huge task, and we have been busy ironing out other issues in the plugin. However, I do not have an ETA with me, but I have added my internal vote to the request.

Although, this is a bug with the way the snippet preview displays in the backend, like you noted, there should be no mistake when you show the page on the frontend.

We appreciate your patience with this subject while we work hard to implement this.

If you have any other questions or require any further assistance don’t hesitate to get in touch.

    OK, thank you.

    Hello,

We are super happy that we have addressed your concern. If you have any other questions in the future, know that we are here to help you.

If you don’t mind us asking, could you please leave us a review (if you haven’t already) on https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/seo-by-rank-math/reviews/#new-post about your overall experience with Rank Math? We appreciate your time and patience.

If you have another question in the future, please feel free to create a new forum topic, and it will be our pleasure to assist you again.

    Thank you.
