    Hello,
When I changed the URL of my post in wordpress (not in rankmath) then the page goes down, to many redirections. When I disable the redirection module, it works fine. Which settings do I have to make for preventing this error?
    Thank you for your answer.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Could you please share the affected URL so we can check?

Also, please share a screenshot of your redirections dashboard in Rank Math > Redirections. You can upload it using this tool and add the link here.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

It’s about this page. This now looks the only one, who is not working when I enable the redirection module. Will upload the screenshot now

    Hello,

The URL you shared doesn’t seem to redirect at the moment.

If the redirection module is currently disabled, we might need to check this one over your admin dashboard instead. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress login in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    The main problems are:

    1. When edit an URL the post goes down due to to many redirections -> https://family-everywhere.com/lange-autorit-met-kinderen-de-handigste-tips/ (active case)

    2. This was also the case with https://family-everywhere.com/veilig-reizen-met-kinderen/ Elegant themes helped me with this, they first change the url to reizen-met-kinderen , the same as the page name, later on I changed it back tot veilig-reizen-met-kinderen , but when I want to go to veilig-reizen-met-kinderen I still go to /reizen-met-kinderen.

When I disable the redirection module, number 1 is resolved. Number 2 depending on what browser I use….

I hope you can help me with this problem. And if there is a solution to changing the URL without the page is going down.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I logged into your website’s admin area and upon investigating, I found that you redirected the /lange-autorit-met-kinderen-de-handigste-tips/ URL to itself, which resulted in a redirection loop and the page became inaccessible when enabling the Redirections module. You can have a look at the screencast in the sensitive data section of this ticket for a quick reference.

You should never redirect a URL to itself as it will always result in similar issues.

This is the redirection causing the issue: /wp-admin/admin.php?page=rank-math-redirections&action=edit&redirection=3

I’ve disabled this redirection for now and the page is working properly. You can modify and enable the redirection back again if required.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi,
Thank you. It all makes sense.
Apart from one thing. When I change an URL I do this in wordpress in the editing part of the post. Why does Rankmath seeing this as a redirection to itself? Because I change the primary URL.

    Hello,

Can you please confirm if the affected redirection is automatically created by our plugin? Rank Math shouldn’t create a redirection that points to the same URL as before. When the option “Auto Post Redirect” in the redirection settings is turned on, Rank Math only creates a redirection if it sees a change in the post’s permalink.

    Looking forward to helping you.

I dont exactly know if I understand you correctely.
To bad I can’t at a screenshot. When I changed the URL I don’t use Rankmath. I did this in the settings of the post.

    Auto post redirect is ENABLED.
    Debug redirections is DISABLED

    Hello,

If you wanted to attach a screenshot, please upload it using this tool and share the generated link here.

Could you please confirm if the redirect that was mentioned by my colleague above was automatically created upon updating the permalink/slug of the post? That is not the expected behavior of the Auto Post redirect feature.

When that option is enabled, Rank Math automatically redirects the old slug to the new URL of the post:

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

I change the URL like the screenshot above, I didnt did it manually in Rankmath.

It was about this post: https://family-everywhere.com/een-lange-camperreis-met-kinderen-wat-neem-je-mee/

Maybe the settings were not right…

    Hello,

I logged into your website and tested changing the permalink of a testing post and no self redirections were created.

Maybe the permalink of that post was changed multiple times and during that period, the current permalink was set more than once, and thus the self redirection was created.

However, as it is working properly now, you can continue working on the website and if you face the issue again, feel free to let us know and we will have a closer look.

    Thank you.

    I will thank you!
