Title include name of website even if deleted

#204711
  • Hi,

I’ve noticed two examples on our site of pages whose page titles include the name of the site even though it isn’t inserted in RankMath’s system. Please see “Sensitive Data” for screenshots.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

The SERPs result shows the cached version of the URLs, Give google sometimes, and it will re-fetch the latest version of the page and show it inside the SERPs.

Please see the screenshot link I have shared inside the sensitive data section.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

But it was changed far earlier than those dates, so it should have been changed by now?

    Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.

Google it takes time to recrawl the website, I would suggest you to wait for few more days and hopefully Google will crawl the updated titles. If you want to manually push the URL to google you can use the URL Inspection tool.

You can learn more about re-crawling a website here:
    https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/crawling/ask-google-to-recrawl

Hope that helps. If you have any further question(s), please let us know. Thank you.

    Hi again,

It hasn’t changed, and I’ve just found more examples of the issue happening.

Can you please fix it? It looks incredibly stupid

    Hello,

    Thanks for getting back.

I checked your site on Google search and I can see the changes have started to appear for some of your pages. Please check the screenshot that I have attached in the sensitive data section. The pages that have been cached around 4th or 5th June are showing the correct title.

Please wait for Google to crawl all the pages and index the changes in the search results.

Do note that if everything’s fine and Google still decides to show a different meta title/description for your search keyword, there is nothing you can do as Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and show something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better.

Here are some of the common reasons Google might not use the meta description you provided:
The meta description is not relevant or useful (ie, just a collection of keywords).
The exact same meta description is provided across a large number of pages.
The meta description doesn’t match what the user is searching for, but other content on the page does.

There is a whole article dedicated to this on SearchEngineJournal:
    https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-offers-suggestions-for-avoiding-meta-description-rewrites/359884/

Here is an example showing Google changes title depending on the keyword used:
    description
    &
    description 2

The best you can do is optimize your meta tags to try and match the intent of the search/keyword.

Hope that helps. If you have any further question(s), please let us know.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hi again,

Thanks for the reply, but I’m not talking about the meta description – I’m talking about the title of the page. As you can see, it adds the site name right after we already mention it (I’ve described this in the sensitive data section too).

We don’t add this and it seems like RankMath adds it for some reason…

    Hello,

    Thanks for getting back.

As you can see in the screenshot that it’s not the case with all the pages. You can see the last three search results in the screenshot, the name of your site is only being added once.

It means Google has started to identify changes for your pages and it’s just a matter of time until all the pages start to show the correct title in the search results. There is nothing more we or you can do other than waiting for Google to crawl all the pages.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Jaideep.

It has never been all pages that did this.

I contacted you last week because I saw that a couple of pages started to do this, and now I just saw even more pages beginning to do the same.

    This needs to get fixed.

    Hello,

Thanks for getting back. Sorry for the delay and any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I have checked both the pages and the meta title tag is set correctly for both of those. There is no duplicate title that can cause the issue or be read by the Googlebot.

So the only reason the title hasn’t change in the search results is either Google hasn’t identified the issues or doesn’t want to display the new title(which is highly unlikely as it is already being displayed for your other pages).

The cached version of your page is from 31st May, so please wait for Google to crawl the page again and see if the issue gets resolved or not.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Hi,

It is now happening on almost all of our mobile results – I really don’t think it’s just Google who’s making a mistake. Something must be wrong on our part.

    Hello,

Thanks for getting back. Sorry for the delay and any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I can check that the pages that were showing this issue before are now showing the correct title in the search results. Please check the screenshots attached in the sensitive data section.

It means that Google is slowly identifying the SEO title changes and applying them in the search results. Please wait and the same will be applied to all your pages.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any further assistance.

How are you sure you’re right about this and that we/RankMath aren’t making a mistake? :’)

I can still see the mistake happening on MANY search results, and I really doubt that Google automatically would add the site name in the Title right after it’s written anyway…

    Hello,

Thank you for keeping in touch with us.

We deeply apologize for the issue you are facing right now.

As you can see on the front end of your website, the title is properly added by Rank Math (please see my video screencast: https://i.rankmath.com/QP1kj2) and we have no control over how Google would like to display your site’s title on the SERP. This was explained by my colleague here: https://support.rankmath.com/ticket/title-include-name-of-website-even-if-deleted/?view=all#post-209101

The best thing to do is to either wait for Google to recrawl and recognize the changes or further optimize your meta content for search intent.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

No. He explained why meta descriptions can change (and everyone knows that). Google can also change title tags, but it happens rarely, and since this change looks like a mistake, I don’t think it’s Google who did it (which is why I think it’s an error on our/your part).

    Hello,

Since we did not hear back from you for 15 days, we are assuming that you found the solution. We are closing this support ticket.

If you still need assistance or any other help, please feel free to open a new support ticket, and we will be more than happy to assist.

    Thank you.
