The replacement page has the appropriate canonical tag for Wishlist

    Hello there.
I have a situation that I don’t know how to solve:

    1. In my Google Search Console, there is a message displaying “The replacement page has the appropriate canonical tag,” and there are many URLs of this form “?add_to_wishlist=*”

Note: * is a random end character.

I use “YITH WooCommerce Wishlist” for the wishlist, the module is compatible (recommended by the theme).

    2. Should I add the following text to the “robots.txt” file without significantly affecting the website; is this the correct solution?
    Disallow: /?add_to_wishlist=*

How can I fix this please?
    Thank you.

  • Hello,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re facing with the Google Search Console message about the appropriate canonical tag for the replacement page. I understand that you’re using the YITH WooCommerce Wishlist module for your website.

To address this issue, you don’t need to add any rules to the robots.txt file. Instead, you should ensure that the appropriate canonical tag is set for the URLs with the “?add_to_wishlist=*” parameter.

To fix this, you can use the advanced mode in Rank Math to set the canonical URL for these pages. Here’s how you can do it:

    1. Go to your WordPress Dashboard and navigate to Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Product URLs.
    2. Enable the advanced mode if it’s not already enabled by following these instructions.
    3. Under the Advanced tab, in the canonical URL field, enter the URL that you want Google to index for these pages.
    4. Save your changes.

By setting the canonical URL using Rank Math’s advanced mode, you can ensure that Google indexes the correct version of the pages with the “?add_to_wishlist=*” parameter.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to ask.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

Yes, you can add it to your robots.txt to block them.

Moreover, they are already set to noindex so Google should stop crawling them as well.

    Hope that helps.

    Hello.
I noticed there’s a member facing a situation similar to mine, but the Rank Math admin didn’t insert the “Disallow” code into the “robots.txt” file; instead, they added the code to the “functions.php” file.

The member’s instructions can be found here: https://support.rankmath.com/ticket/alternate-page-with-proper-canonical-tag-for-wishlist/

What steps should I take in this situation?

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

The code we have shared from that ticket is to set them to noindex, and it should be inserted in your theme’s functions.php.

Since those pages from your screenshot are already set to noindex, then you won’t need to add that code.

You may use the Disallow rule in your robots.txt file instead.

    Hope that helps.

    Hello,
