Do i need the google maps api?

Am not really sure if I understand, could you please clarify what is triggering this error? In any case, you wish to show the Google maps on the front end you would need the Google Maps API key installed within your theme/plugin.

I have always used the local seo option without api and it has worked fine for me until yesterday.

Could you please try adding the Google API for your maps in Local SEO then clear your website’s cache? Also, have you tried verifying the API key or generating a new one?
