    Hi there,

My meta title and description was displayed correctly on google search beforehand, however I made some changes to “Local SEO” information such as the “Website name”, “website alternate name” and “Person/Organization name”. When these changes were made it has now changed the Meta title and description of the website homepage in the google search results?

The meta title and description are set correctly on the homepage settings and have not been changed, but for some reason after updating this info on Local SEO it has changed our meta title and meta description.

Can you please let me know how to fix this so that the meta title and description represent what has been previously set on the homepage page. See screenshots below of settings.

    Thanks!

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issue you are facing with the Meta title and description changes in Google search results after updating the “Local SEO” information. It seems like the changes made in the “Local SEO” settings have affected how your website’s homepage is displayed in Google search results.

To address this, you can follow these steps to ensure that the correct Meta title and description are displayed:

    1. Check Google’s Cache: Verify when Google last indexed your page to see if it has picked up the changes. You can do this by checking the cache date as shown in the screenshot below:

    Check the Google Cache

    1. Wait for Re-crawling: If the cache date is before the changes, you need to wait for Google to re-crawl and re-index the page with the updated Meta title and description.

    2. Google’s Autonomy: Keep in mind that Google sometimes chooses to display a different Meta title/description based on search intent, even if you have set specific information. This can happen due to various reasons outlined in our guide here.

If the issue persists after following these steps, please provide more details or screenshots, and we will assist you further.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

We checked your website with some keywords and we can see Google is showing the correct metadata for your homepage on SERPs:

That means Google is already aware of the correct metadata of your website. Nowadays, Google does that very commonly. Even when everything is fine, Google may choose to display a different meta title and description for your search query result. Google may skip the custom metadata you have set and instead display something from the page’s content that better matches the search intent.

    Hi there,

The thing is, it was fine before and showed correctly up until I updated the Local SEO settings by changing those 3 settings I stated in my first message “Website name”, “website alternate name” and “Person/Organization name”. Prior it displayed both meta title and description perfectly when the homepage was viewed across search results. If I turned off local SEO will it fix this?

OR If I change or remove any of these settings “Website name”, “website alternate name” and “Person/Organization name”, will it go back to how it was?

Which one out of these 3 above is responsible for the Meta title name or could over ride it?

I want to ensure that it doesn’t impact my SEO rankings and also my click through rates.

Please assist as I would like it to go back to how it was.

    Kind regards,

    Hello,

None of those settings affect the meta title and description in the SERPs. As mentioned by my colleague, Google can rewrite the title & description if they don’t find the one set by you helpful for the SERPs. It must be a coincidence that this happened after you changed the Local SEO settings.

If you are still concerned, you can try to revert all the Local SEO settings as they were before and see if that also updates the metadata in the SERPs. However, we can assure you it has nothing to do with the Local SEO settings as those settings only affect the Schema and only the properties you changed will be updated.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
