Hello, I’ve tested to visit a not existed page on my website, and got a 404 page.
Visiting my “404 Monitor” page in Rank Math, giving me a “The 404 error log is empty” message, with no log!

    What to do, please?
    Thanks

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for the delay and for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

The 404 monitor works as expected on my end. There are two reasons why Rank Math would be unable to detect 404s:

1). If you have a custom 404 page from the theme set to detect all 404s or a plugin conflict. You can check this by following the steps here:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

2). Suppose you have enabled default redirection to the homepage via Rank Math > General Settings > Redirections > Fallback Behavior. This should be set to “Default 404.”

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do have a custom 404 page made by Elementor!

    Hello,

If you have set a custom page to be the redirect page for all your 404s then it is likely the pages are read to be having a status 301 redirected to a status 200 OK. The 404 monitor will only log a URL as 404 if it actually returns a 404 status. You can check your URL status here: httpstatus.io

    Hope this helps.
