Submitted URL marked ‘noindex’ pages not removed from sitemap when excluded

I commented this before however didn’t receive a response and really need to fix this.
I excluded posts using their post IDs (see website), such as the Woocommerce cart, however these do not get removed from the sitemap (also not after clearing cache) resulting in a google search console error.

  • PLEASE HELP, I tried all the following already:
    – put my checkout page on noindex, no image index, no snippet, no archive in the RM advanced page
    – put the checkout page ID in the exclude pages
    – cleared all my cache
    – went to settings > permalinks > and hit save
    – disable sitemap and enabled it again
    – put the max number of links from 200 to 201 and hit save again
Yet the page still appears in the sitemap causing issues in search console!

    Hello rickbeeloo,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I have accessed your site and it seems your site is still cached. I added rules to WP Rocket to exclude the sitemap URLs but it didn’t seem to work on your site.

Please get in touch with your server provider to check if they are caching your site data from their end because I disabled the sitemap module in Rank math dashboard and the sitemap is still loading fine, which means it is cached and being loaded from somewhere else and changes on your site are not updated to your sitemap on real-time basis.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hello Michael,

    thankyou for the response!
I just contacted the hosting and they disabled all caching related to it. Indeed when I turn off the sitemap in the dashboard the URL isn’t accessible anymore either – so that’s solved. However the checkout page, even tho the post id is in the “exclude” field and the page marked as noindex still appears in the sitemap. This applies to more page actually, so please take another look

    Hello,

The checkout page was 54 which I added to the exclusion list and that seems to have worked to exclude it from the sitemap.
Please not that in some cases previously indexed posts may appear on sitemap, but they will still not be indexed given they contain a noindex tag in their source.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hello Michael,

Indeed it seems to work now, thankyou!
To come back to your second point, that’s exactly where the search console gives the error. There are pages in the sitemap for which google sees a no-index tag, and thus says why did you even put it in the sitemap then and records that as failed coverage. I will keep you updated on how this went now and then close this thread 🙂
