Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for the delay and for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.
That is not the expected behavior of the Strip category base option. If you have enabled it, the old URLs with /category/
should redirect to the non-category URLs.
Yes, the indexed URLs on the Google search results page will show that error since they are showing error 404.
In this case, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins, together with the affected URL/s in the designated Sensitive Data section.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/
You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/
Thank you, and we really look forward to helping you.
Okay, I’m new to RM, I’m not going to give out login details, is there a way to restore the categories? Without restoring the whole site from back up.
Hello,
Thank you for the follow-up, and sorry for the delay.
You can revert the changes by disabling the Strip Category Base option in Rank Math > General Settings > Links. Then your category archive pages should work with the /category/
in their URLs again.
Please let us know how this goes.
I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.
