Stop adding rel="ugc" to links in comments - Support

Hello!

I just migrated from YOAST to RankMath and I have one major SEO problem.

RankMath plugin adds a rel=”ugc” to all the links posted in comments.

However, I tend to use comments as an “internal link distribution channel” that is I add a lot of internal links to my other articles in comments section.

Now they are being assigned rel=”ugc” attribute which acts like nofollow attribute and results in Google not following those links.

What can I do to stop Plugin from doing that?

Hello,

Since the links in the comment are user-generated, we are adding ugc attribute. It is recommended by Google. You can read more about it here: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2019/09/evolving-nofollow-new-ways-to-identify.html

Even WordPress is going to add the ugc attribute by default to the links in the comment. You’ll see this change in WP 5.3: https://make.wordpress.org/core/2019/10/03/wp-5-3-introduces-new-functions-to-add-ugc-attribute-to-links-and-implements-it-to-comments/

If you still want to remove that attribute then please add following filter code in your theme:

`
add_filter( ‘rank_math/frontend/add_ugc_attribute’, ‘__return_false’ );
`
