Star rating for an old video game site to play online

#384760
  • I want visitors to be able to rate the video games on my website and have the Rich Snippet. I also have the blog on video games, of which I speak of consoles, genres, series.

    Which Rich Snippet do I use? I currently have a plugin for the stars, but the author says he won’t have much support for the Rich Snippet.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention.

    To generate a review/rating in the SERP, you may need to use any supported Schema type on your blog posts.

    Here’s a link for more information:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/earning-star-ratings-in-serps/

    Also, if you want to collect the user ratings, then you will have to use a third-party plugin like WP Review to do that.

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    I had read that article. I wanted to know which one is right for me. Great, I don’t need to add a star rating plugin.

    Which Rich Snippet is right for me?
    – Site of old video games to play online.
    – Blog about old video games.

    Hello,

    1. You can add the Software Schema:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/software-schema/

    2. For the Blog posts, you can use the Article Schema:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/article-schema/

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Software;
    – Any operating system I put? You need the browser, and you can use your computer, tablet, and phone.
    – I did not understand how to insert the users’ star ratings with your scheme.

    Article;
    – Articles do not have the SERP stars option.

    Hello,

    The start ratings cannot be applied to the Article Schema but they can be applied to the Software Schema.

    As for the data you put on each field that is entirely up to you and the specificities of each page so you are in a better position to assess those values.

    Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    What do I choose for the pages as a Scheme?

    Hello,

    1. Computers, tablets, etc, are not operating systems. Please have a look at this thread for a quick reference: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/128486106/what-operatingsystem-should-be-used-for-a-webapplication-in-structured-data?hl=en

    2. Schemas like the WoCommerce Product Schema updates automatically based on the user entered reviews, but in other Schemas like Book, Software, etc., you need to enter the reviews manually.

    We also add the Author URL in the Review Schema indicating that the review is added by the Author.

    3. Depending on the contents of pages, different Schemas can be used. But in general, the default Article Schema should be fine.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.

    Today I tried to do this.

    But I don’t think I did well.

    It seems strange to me that I have to put article on;
    – Home page
    – Contact us
    – About Us

    I understand that google has a hard time understanding what the website is about. In fact, the website is particular; Game News and Game.

    Well, the emulators are started via the browser. It goes on computers, tablets and phones.

    I put it on the homepage as software but didn’t add any more information. Like Contact Us and About Us, today I removed the schema.

    Today is my birthday, I would like to fix the snippets by today, as a gift. = P

    Hello Giuliano,

    Happy Birthday! We hope you have a fantastic day and a fantastic year to come.

    You will have to add the author review manually to the Software Schema by editing the Schema on your posts:

    If you want to add the user reviews then you will have to get in touch with the support of the plugin that you are using to collect the user reviews and share this filter with them to convert the reviews into the Schema ready content: https://rankmath.com/kb/filters-hooks-api-developer/#extend-json-ld-data

    And you don’t have to use Article Schema to the homepage, about us, and contact us pages as our plugin adds the default Schemas to them. You just need to enter the details about your website in WP Dashboard > Rank Math > Titles & Meta > LocalSEO.

    Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

    Sorry, but I did not understand. I changed the settings, so I don’t know what the defaults are.

    Why local SEO? The games are not mine and it is not a site of a local place. If I need it, I’ll have to study what local SEO is …

    I don’t think the Software scheme is for me;
    – The games aren’t mine.
    – I don’t sell.
    – The games are emulated in JS; the server starts the games as if they were old consoles.
    – I offer the service for free with voluntary donations.

    I think the Schema Game is more suitable, but at the moment I have no money.

    Hello,

    The default Schemas are applied automatically, you don’t need to add them manually. And Local SEO module can be used to enter the details for your site. Even if your site is not a local business, still you can enter the details there to add them to Schema.

    And if an article is about a software/game then you can use the Software Schema for it. It is a suitable Schema even if you are not selling the games.

    Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

    Thanks.

    Do I have to wait for the plugin response to insert the code, or can I copy and insert it with the Code Snippet plugins?

    /**
     * Collect data to output in JSON-LD.
     *
     * @param array $unsigned An array of data to output in json-ld.
     * @param JsonLD $unsigned JsonLD instance.
     */
    add_filter( 'rank_math/json_ld', function( $data, $jsonld ) {
    	return [];
    }, 99, 2);

    Hello,

    The support team of the review plugin will have to modify the filter to add the reviews as Schema. You will have to wait for their response.

    Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to your update.

    Thanks.
