Some tips on ‘news’ website SEO

    Hi – after years of Yoast I’ve installed RankMath – so far so good I think

    I wanted some advice really – I’m a UK one-person independent local news brand – but large for its type – about 1.5 million pvs and 400k users monthly – https://westbridgfordwire.com

    I publish 20-30 articles a day – time to SEO them all perfectly is of course not possible – are there quick tips you have for these? How good is RankMath with no tweaking? ( though when I really want to rank well i put the effort in )

    And for Home Page – many say ranking for home page isn’t that important – how to best deal with that? For the ‘West Bridgford’ keyword I rank 2 or 3 under Wikipedia – but would also like to rank for my nearest city – Nottingham – because I compete on city news too, not sure how to deal with that.

    To answer your first question, Rank Math just doing the setup wizard should be enough for you (without more tweaking). As a quick tip, I would recommend you to follow the guidelines Rank Math has but also so don’t be worried if you are not able to reach 100/100. They are just guidelines and sometimes you don’t need to follow all of them. But since you have a news site, I strongly recommend you to set your articles’ schema as Article > News post.

    About the home, meanwhile people prefer to focus on posts, it is also a good thing to rank it. Its authority is transferred to its children (your news posts). Some good recommendations about it are found here: https://neilpatel.com/blog/seo-friendly-homepage/
