Some weeks ago I deselected some pages under the sitemaps settings to prevent them from being indexed, however, they are still indexed on Google at the moment. What can I do?

  • Hello, we apologize for the inconvenience you are facing with your pages being indexed on Google despite being deselected from the sitemaps settings.

To resolve this issue, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Your WordPress Global Settings:
Ensure that the Discourage Search engines… option is not enabled at WordPress Dashboard → Settings → Reading. This setting can prevent Google from indexing your site, so make sure it is unchecked.

Ensure Search Engine Visibility option is unchecked

    2. Ensure Your Robots.txt Rules Allow Your Website To Be Indexed:
Check for the disallow tag in your website’s robots.txt file using a tool like this one. If there is a disallow tag, you can change it using the robots.txt editor in Rank Math at WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Edit Robots.txt.

      Edit robots.txt

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please feel free to reach out to our support team for further assistance. We are always more than happy to answer all your queries and concerns.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Please note that a sitemap is only one of many ways Google discovers the URLs of your site. If you don’t even include any URLs on your sitemap, Google can still find those URLs from your website.

The best way to prevent Google from indexing any pages is to set them noindex. Here’s how you can set a page noindex by using Rank Math: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-noindex-urls/

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.
