Sitemap not excluding taxonomy

I am trying to remove posts with a list of categories from the sitemap (the URLs for these categories also redirect to homepage).

In /wp-admin/admin.php?page=rank-math-options-sitemap I have added the category ID to ‘Exclude terms’, but the posts in that category still show up in the site map.

I have tried enabling and disabling the feature, turning the sitemap on and off, deleting and re-adding the ID, but the posts still show up. How can I remove posts in these categories from the sitemap?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

If you mark any post as noindex, they will not appear in your sitemap.

If you do not wish to mark them as noindex, you have to manually add the post IDs each time.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thanks Alberto,

I’m puzzled. What is the purpose of the ‘Exclude Terms’ list? This page https://rankmath.com/kb/configure-sitemaps/ says that it will ‘exclude entire taxonomies’ but that doesn’t include posts in that taxonomy? What does it actually do?

I found another reply here https://support.rankmath.com/ticket/exclude-taxonomy/ that offers a filter solution, which I will try and update this ticket accordingly.

    Hi David,

The option to exclude terms exclude the individual terms such as categories/tags from being added to the sitemap. Please note that it’s not what is included(posts) but the term URL itself.

Let us know how the filter option goes for you and if you have any further question(s), do not hesitate to ask.

    Thank you
