Sorry couldn’t login under usual account due to not being sure as to which (out of many) math rank accounts I used and then blowing the number attempts out.
Ok. So I solved the problem. What I do with products is setup say a typical product for dresses. Get all the pertinent data right for the typical dress. Then I will duplicate that product and then alter it. What I failed to do was to alter the Canonical URL. Which is why it wouldn’t update. So I fixed it. Maybe have a setting which can be togled on/off where Rank Math will allways pull the Canonical URL from the URL. Saves us tired old men from having to remember if I did everythings.

I am glad you made it work.
Rank Math will always choose the current page’s URL as the default canonical URL. If the canonical URL was set as a different URL in your case, it is because you either set it or you imported the settings from another SEO plugin.
