Sitemap issues – sitemaps not showing

    Hi Rank Math team
I have resubmitted my sitemaps for one of my websites as Google Console has complained about missing sitemaps.
I get error messages and “lots of can’t fetch” messages. What am I doing wrong? How can I generate a functioning sitemap?
    Hope you can help me.
    Regards
    Helen White

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

We usually recommend only submitting only one sitemap, the main one: sitemap_index.xml.
Before submitting you should ensure your sitemap are updating correctly and if you are using any caching plugin, please add your sitemap URLs to be excluded from caching.

    That should resolve your issue.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Dear Micheal
Thank you for your reply. I will resubmit the main sitemap and not the others. I guess because there were so many options I just didn’t know what is important to submit. Maybe it’s best not to offer those options. I hope I can exclude the sitemap from the caching (have to see how I do that) I am not very techy. If I can’t get this resolved I might have to contact you again. Best wishes Helen

    Hi Michael
I am trying to actually find sitemap index html in Rank Math’s sitemap settings , but all I can find is this: https://hkpress.co.uk/?sitemap=1
Which is under general. Is this the one I submit – but not anything under: posts, pages, categories, tags and images? Also how many links per sitemap would I need to include?
Once I know I have the right sitemap I can add it in the Cache plugin to exclude it.
Hope you can clarify this or tell me how to generate a new sitemap.
    Best wishes
    Helen

    Hello,

There seems to be an issue with your permalinks settings. The main sitemap should read as */sitemap_index.xml. We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hi Michael
In order to generate a temporary login I need a name and email address.
    I have installed both plugins.
    Kind regards

    Hello,

You can add as name Rank Math and e-mail s******@r***********

    Looking forward to help you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

Thanks Alberto. Just added the temporary link. Helen

    Hi Helen,

    Please choose this permalink setting:
    https://i.rankmath.com/ZujMGi

Then the correct URLs will show up and you can exclude them in your cache plugin.

Looks like they are currently indexed:

Let us know how it goes.

    Hi Uzair
Thank you for your help. I followed your instructions and resubmitted the main index to google console. Do I need to add the other indexed things like pages, posts and categories or is the main index enough? Also I do have 3 cache plugins but could only exclude it in Stackcache as I couldn’t find the place to exclude sitemap in Autoptimise and W3TotalCache. Could that affect things?
Again thank you for your help.
    Helen

    Hello,

It might be an issue with W3Totalcache but not so much with autoptimize as it normally deals with html/css/js. To exclude the URLs in W3TC head over to Performance > Page cache and scroll to advanced options to find a field box labeled never cache these URLs.

It is also not recommendable to have multiple cache plugins for the same purpose on your site as they might lead to conflicts and related errors.

Hope that helps. If you have any further question(s), please let us know. Thank you.

    Hi Michael
    Thanks for your reply.
I might delete the W3TotalCache – my other website had massive issues because of those two cache plugins . My host installed Stackcache instead. I only added W3Total because there were a few things the SEO audit complained about and I read that W3TtotalCache was recommended to help with the various issues.I see first I I can exclude the url.
    Kind regards
    Helen

Just noticed that I couldn’t find the box labeled never cache urls – all I could find was never cache this page. Am I correct that I add the url there?
