Sitemap intermittently available in Google Search Console

    Dear support,

    We are currently experiencing a critical issue with our website. The sitemap is sometimes present in Google Search Console and sometimes it isn’t. This is interfering with our Google Ranking and we would like to resolve this as soon as possible.

    The sitemap can be found at https://smartoptions.io/sitemap_index.xml. I can open it from my system from normal and incognito browser screens.

    However, Google sometimes says the sitemap can be loaded but contains errors and it is in HTML-format.

    We are seeing immediate negative results in our ranking when this happens.

    Unfortunately we haven’t been able to pinpoint the problem exactly. That’s why we ask for your help. We also openend tickets with WP Rocket and CloudFlare to try and pinpoint the problem.

    Hello,

    I will send it to the dev team so they can check it in detail. I think they might need to take a closer look at the settings so please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

    It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    Please note that the sitemap_index.xml is the one from Rank Math and the sitemap.xml is from a different sitemap plugin. The screenshot was taken prior to disabling the Rank Math’s sitemap module. As you can see the Rank Math sitemap shows an error. The error as stated by Google is Sitemap is HTML.

    The screenshot is in Dutch so I hope it is clear. If not, please let me know and I’ll translate it.

    Dear support, Your last remark about the different sitemaps is just strange. We reported the errors over the last 2 months. All the time with the Rank Math plugin active as you can see in the log and screenshots. We changed this now because of the continuous errors and the lack of structured support that really tries to solve the issue.

    We found as shown in the screenshot that there is something wrong with your coding in the Rank Math plugin sitemap creator. Our ranking was hurt by this sitemap creator. We think that the plugin and support are not professional enough and not focused on the customer and solving the issue. This is why We have decided to change to Yoast and they have solved all issues in a day. The ranking is back up and everything is working as it should. Can you remove all our data please and you can close the ticket. I wish you all the best.

    Hello,

    We are extremely sorry to hear that.

    If you test your sitemap using 3rd party testing tools – you will notice that the sitemap is correctly created and doesn’t throw any errors.

    We would have loved to help you sort this issue give the chance but we respect your decision and have removed all your data from our website.
