Sitemap Included Deleted Pages / Old Permalinks

    Hello,

    I am having some issues with my sitemap, I am trying to reduce index bloat but having trouble due to sitemap errors.

    My sitemap is showing old pages that have been deleted, as well as old permalinks that have since been changed. This is resulting in GSC giving my site 404 errors for not updated permalinks and showing indexed pages that no longer exist, also giving 404.

    I have tried clearing cache, re-saving permalink settings, disabling and re-enabling sitemaps in rankmath.

    I have 10+ pages with permalink issues and 10+ deleted pages that are still showing on the sitemap.

    Any advice would be awesome, thanks for your help!

    Ok ok ok – I tried in different browser (safari) and it seems to work now?

    I re-submitted my sitemap to GSC after getting it to work in safari, and it has more URLS that have been found in the sitemap, then are present on the sitemap?

    It seemed to be a browser caching issue, but why is GSC still seeing the extras that should have been deleted?

    After clearing browser cache, sitemap is appearing correct in chrome, and the amount of URL recognized by GSC is correct.

    Browser caching can be such a pain.
