    Hi,

4 out of 14 of my sitemaps are getting “404 error” in search console

    The other 4 are successful.

What could be causing this issue and how to fix it?

    Best Regards

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

This issue is usually caused by caching of your sitemap URLs. Could you please do the following:
    1. If you have any caching plugin on your site, please add your sitemap URLs to be excluded from caching, then purge/ clear all cache.

    2. Head over to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks

    Hit the save button once.

    3. Go to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Sitemap Settings

    Hit the save button once.

    4. On your GSC, remove your sitemaps and resubmit only the main sitemap(/sitemap_index.xml)

    That should fix the issue.

If it doesn’t, please do let us know so we can look at this further.

    Hi,

That did the trick, however still get error for 1 sitemap, “/product_cat-sitemap3.xml”

    What could that be?

    Best Regards

    Hello,

There are tow possible causes, either you have set product categories to noindex or you don’t have any product category under WooCommerce > Products > Categories

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

They are not noindex and i have product categories, “/product_cat-sitemap1.xml” and “/product_cat-sitemap2.xml” are green in search console without errors

    Hello,

Could you share your website URL in the Sensitive Data section so we can check the issue by ourselves?

    Looking forward to help you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hi Niklas,

Please change the limit for URLs per sitemap from 200 to 400 from WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Sitemap Settings > Global

    Then, it should work.

If that doesn’t work, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.
