  • Hello, I’m sorry to hear that you’re experiencing issues with adding a favicon as an icon for Google search results. To add a favicon to your site, you can follow these steps:

    1. Log into your WordPress site and navigate to the WordPress Dashboard → Appearance → Customize → Site Identity.

    2. Click on Site Identity and specify your site name, tagline, logo, and icon. The image that you set in Site Icon will be used as your site’s favicon.

    3. Simply click on the Select Image button and upload the image you want to use as a site icon.

Once you’ve added the favicon using these steps, it may take some time for Google to crawl your site and update the favicon on search results. You can also refer to the guidelines by Google to ensure that your favicon appears correctly on SERPs.

If you have any further questions about changing your website’s favicon in WordPress, please feel free to contact our dedicated support team. They are available 24/7, 365 days a year.

Site favicon is in PNG format, is this not correct?

    Hello,

A favicon can actually be either a PNG, GIF, or ICO file. However, ICO files are typically used more than others as the file size is smaller and it is supported in all major browsers.

Moreover, Rank Math is unable to control the favicon that appears on your website. Usually, that’s built into the theme options.

You can also check the guidelines that Google has for that here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/favicon-in-search

Please make sure that you have the same setup on your website.

    Hope that helps.

I cannot do it because I use free non-paid plugins on WordPress. I also uploaded a favicon in theme appearance. It still doesn’t work. my site is: paketebi.ge

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

Upon checking your site’s source code, you have multiple favicons, and the sizes defined for them are too big.

Also, according to Google’s guidelines, Favicons must be a multiple of 48px squares for example:
    48x48px, 96x96px, 144x144px, and so on.

Please ensure that you have configured it on your site as well.

You may get in touch with your theme provider to assist you with that.

    Hope that helps.

I got a second site where I use the same setting and same-sized favicon (512x512px). I don’t think the dimension is the case but I still did change that to 480x480px. I got a second site (dropy.ge) which has no issue with this with a 512x512px sized favicon.

    Hello,

Google uses the Google Favicon user agent to fetch the favicon from your website and caches it on its servers. Since this user agent is a low-volume crawler, sometimes it may take a while for Google to update the favicon if you have changed it recently.

However, to speed up the process and make sure Google shows the correct favicon for your website, you can use the Google URL Inspection Tool to request a recrawl of your website. This will tell Google to re-fetch your website data and update the favicon accordingly. You can find the tool here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9012289#request_indexing

You can learn more about how Google shows the favicon in search results from this article: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/favicon-in-search

We hope this helps. Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns.

    Thank you.
