Single Product Page available under multiple urls

  • Hello,

I have just seen that Google stills has outdated product urls of our website in it‘s index which are getting still crawled.

First we had a url structure like:

    but changed it to

But if we visit the old urls they are still available, they are showing a Canonical to the new URL.

So my question is, is the Canonical alone enough or should we redirect the old links to the new ones?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

It is recommended to redirect your URLs to the pages that you want the users to find. If you don’t mind users checking out your old URLs, you can leave them be. If you wish for them access only the pages with the new URLs, you can use Rank math redirection module to redirect these to your new post URL. If you want them removed from SERPs completely, you shoud request URL removal in your GSC then set the old URLs to noindex and redirect them to their related new URLs.

Hoping this helps you. Thank you.

Thanks for the reply, should I redirect them one by one or use a regex to match the pattern?

What I have also found out is that you can replace the „/p/„ from with anything and the url will still work.

Could you have a look at our Shop and see if there are any misconfigurations with Rank Math?

We can take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

You could create a regex redirection like /(.*)/(.*) but meanwhile, it would work for your products, it would break all the categories, and so on.

The best way would be to create a custom regex for each product you need, for example, let’s say you have this product:

    Then you should add:
    And as target: /my-product/

    Looking forward to help you.

Is it possible to bulk add Redirections to Rank Math?

Sadly we don’t have that feature yet but if you want, I would recommend to check the following thread for a workaround:

    Looking forward to help you.
