Single Post Title

Hello. Over 3 weeks ago I changed the Single Post Title settings to %title%. It used to be %title% %sep% %sitename%, but like I said, I changed it over 3 weeks ago. The problem is that I’m not seeing the changes on Google SERPs. Every blog post still has the title, separator and site name on it.

I had my sitemap indexed since then and nothing has changed in the SERPs. Also a few days ago I published a brand new blog post and it’s also not displaying the title correctly. So it shouldn’t be an issue of Google not re-crawling my posts.

Do you know what I should do to fix this? I’ll attach the settings I have and what the SERPs look like with our new post that was published a few days ago.

  • Hello,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

It is a pretty common thing with Google these days. It happens with 70% of the results and we even have a KB dedicated to this problem and a few solutions we recommend:

    https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/

Please check the KB and you will understand the reasons Google does this.

Google has made some changes to their algorithm which automatically changes the titles, discarding the one you have set in your SEO title meta tag. This happens regardless of the SEO plugin you are using. We have covered this Google update here:

    https://rankmath.com/google-update/google-title-rewrite-update/

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

Yeah, I saw the KB dedicated to my issue but it didn’t solve what’s going on. I followed every step in that post and everything looks fine on my end.

I guess I’m not understanding your second link regarding Google changing titles. In my case, they aren’t changing my titles. They are leaving them the way they were written before, which looks terrible because I had my Site Name in the title and it gets cut off. Why would Google choose to make my title tag look bad? I changed it so that it should only be showing the title and not the Site Name. You’re saying Google won’t let me do that? And my title tags will be cut-off from now on?

    Hello,

Google can choose to show a different title from what you have set like they are doing in your case. You can only wait and see if Google decides to pick up your title and show it in the SERPs.

Since the recent changes in Google’s algorithm, they have started to ignore the title tag and generate a title that they find suitable for the search terms and content of the page.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

    Thanks.
