Should pillar content be pages or posts?

    Hello,

I see many websites having pillar content that doesn’t have a date showing. I was wondering if they do that to rank in search engines for a longer period of time? It confuses me because I have read elsewhere that it is bad to not show dates.

Do you think it is better to use pages or posts within wordpress to write pillar content? The reason I ask is because of this date idea.

My initial thought was to use a page. However I also realised that I could just recreate the post every year (if relevant) and then redirect the old post to the new one. That way I get to keep the evergreen sections whilst updating other big parts of the pillar content and having the date reflect that.

    Hope that all makes sense,
    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

It is neither bad nor good to have dates appear on your posts.

For some niches, it makes sense to have the dates appear. For others that are in the evergreen content business, it makes no sense to have the dates appears.

Having an old article showing a date in SERPs might decrease your CTR which will, in turn, demote you in rankings. So, use that option carefully and only when you frequently update your content.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Great thank you very much!
