Several issues – 429 response errors – Check Key Page – Submit URL issue

    Hi,

I have gone through the very helpful videos but have a few issues which I can’t seem to resolve.

The first one I have tried to resolve is my 429 Response errors.

I seem to get these every time I update my page.

I have looked at the guidance and see the reason is likely too many requests. But I am certainly not making many requests so they will not be coming from my IP address. Could this be related to other users who use the same host as myself (Cloud Next).

Potentially linked to this are 2 other issues.

When I am in the “Settings” tab and I click “Check Key”, the page that opens up is my website home page (https://glencoewebdesign.co.uk/) – I would expect the page to show me my API Key. My Home Page is the default page set to open when a url is not found.

Then the 3rd potentially related issue in this section is when on the “Submit URLs” tab. When I try to submit my web page (https://glencoewebdesign.co.uk/) I get “Failed to submit URLs – See History tab”

I did try “Change Key” (API Key) yesterday but that doesn’t seem to have helped.

    I am using WordPress.

Is there any help you can offer?

    Kind wishes,

    Lynne

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

For troubleshooting, ensure that you are not automatically submitting your posts and pages to the API:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-fix-429-error-with-indexnow-api/#deselect-auto-submission

Please note that if you have automatic submissions set for any post type, each time you save an edit to a post inside that post type it will trigger a submission.

This might cause a high number of submissions if you are constantly making changes and saving them. If they are checked/enabled, then disable them.

Once done, wait for another 24 hours and try submitting again.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I have turned off the automatic submission (still off) and waited 24 hours.
I have now tried to submit the url https://glencoewebdesign.co.uk
But on hitting the “submit urls” button I get an error message which says “Failed to submit urls . See history tab”. When I go to the history tab it has the 429 error in the Response column.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hello,

If checking the API key is returning a 404 error this means that you need to generate the key manually for the website by following the steps here: https://rankmath.com/kb/fix-403-forbidden-error-indexnow/#add-txt-file-manually

After doing that, please try to check the key and see if you are able to see the corresponding hash in the browser.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    Hi,

I have now manually crated an API Key and clicking “Check Key” opens the file now.

However, if I click on the tab “Submit URLs” and submit the URL https://www.glencoewebdesign.co.uk I get the message “Failed to Submit URLs – See History Tab”
Then when I look at the History tab it says for URL https://www.glencoewebdesign.co.uk that the response is 429.

There has not been anything else in the History tab for over 2 weeks until today.

    Kind Regards,

    Lynne

    Hello,

Can you please confirm if you have other websites on the same server or are on shared hosting? If so, then there’s a possibility that other websites may be using up the quota.

Just to make sure this is not something with our plugin, please try using the plugin that Bing created for this purpose (https://wordpress.org/plugins/indexnow/) on the website, and if that is also failing, we can be sure it’s not only related to our plugin but with the submission on your website.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.
