SEO score gone down after installing a new theme

  • Hiya, not sure if I can post this here, but I have 2 questions. I have recently changed my theme, and my score has gone down from 81 to 69. When running the SEO test, it says that I have more than 20 H2 tags on pages. It doesn’t say which pages, and also I’m not sure where they would be located. Can you help?
Also, it says that I few of my plugins are visible. It doesn’t say. How do I fix this?
    Thanks!

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

The analyzer checks only the page you enter, not all the pages on the website so if you enter your domain name, it checked the homepage and there are the 20 H2 Tags.

About the plugins being visible, you can use some plugin like this one https://wordpress.org/plugins/hide-my-wp/ to hide to visitors you are using WordPress.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Great thank you for that! Just have another question. I have an errormessage regarding minified files, and this is how I can fix it, see below. But my question is-how do I find out where un-minified Javascript files are coming from?
    Thanks again!

JavaScript files appear in many places, including frameworks (like Bootstrap), themes and templates, and third-party plugins.

So you should track down where the culprit (un-minified) JavaScript files come from. For instance, if the un-minified JavaScript lives inside a third party plugin, you can minify it. But when you update the plugin to a new version, the JavaScript files will need to be compressed again.

There are server-side tools (including WordPress plugins) to automatically minify JavaScript files.

    Hello,

What is the error message you get about the minified files? Every un-minified files are on their plugins/theme folders. The minified files are usually inside a cache folder in the cache plugin.

But if you let us know the error you got, maybe we can help you further.

    Looking forward to help you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    and the errormessage is this:

Some Javascript files don’t seem to be minified.

    Hello,

Keep in mind those messages are just guidelines and sometimes you don’t have to fulfill all of them. For example, in this case. jQuery is a javascript library that is recommended to never minify (so that is why maybe your caching plugin didn’t minify it).

    Looking forward to help you.

Thank you. One quick question again, where can I find the H2 tags on the homepage?

    Hello,

I checked your website and I would like to tell you it seems like you have some issue with your minification settings, since your website CSS doesn’t load.

About the h2, they are the posts’ titles you see in the home. I have attached a screencast in the Sensitive Data section showing you how to find them.

    Looking forward to help you.

Thank you for that! With the screencast I just see lots of code…

Would you know how I could solve the CSS problem? Thanks again!

    Hello,

    You can check these guides:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/seo-analysis/
    https://mythemeshop.com/blog/wordpress-speed-optimization/

Alternatively, you can contact your theme provider since the CSS is loaded from your theme.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks for your reply!
