SEO influence of parent category

#69026
  • Hi there,

We have a question, because we made a few categories mainly for our reference to search faster through our 1000 wordpress pages. The question is that we don’t want these categories indexed on search engines as they are not relevant for visitors. But a couple of hundred pages are attached to this category, does it matter SEO wise if we no-index that main category page and does the no-indexing of that category has effect (SEO wise) on the pages attached to this category?

  • Hello,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

If the URLs do not rely on your posts having a particular category then you can easily change the category.

You can assign a new one if you like and it will have very little to no effect on your SEO.

Now, if your post URLs are structured in a way that the category name appears in the URL of the posts – then changing the category will have a substantial effect on your rankings since the old URLs will need to be redirected to the new ones.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
