Search Console showing my css file blocked by robot.txt

    Rank Math free

Search console and google ads are showing primary files being blocked by the Robots.txt
I did a test on one of our sites https://boudoir.ca
We removed Yoast, and then installed Rank Math and set everything up. Since that time, our rankings have TANKED!
Like… not just a minor loss in SERP but a MAJOR loss in serp.
For most of our keywords, we went from 1, to 8 and in a lot of cases we dropped over 20 spots in 6 months.

I have now been doing some in depth analysis to find out what is going on and I started to get some weird errors in Search Console and in Ads about crawls not being possible due to robots.txt blocking the assets.

When I do a page crawl of the website, it is showing me that the theme CSS file (style.css) is being blocked by robots.txt and Google can not crawl the page appropriately.

The theme is a Genesis child custom theme built on Bootstrap4.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I checked your robots.txt but it doesn’t seem to be blocking your any css file. It seems to be modifed however and not including the sitemap URL which is usually included by Rank math by default. You can check and edit your robots.txt in Rank math > General Settings > Robots.txt. If the contents are locked there, then it means you have a robots.txt file in your root folder. By default, the following lines are usually included, you can add them:

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /wp-admin/
    Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

    Sitemap: https://yoursitedomain/sitemap_index.xml

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
