Same article with 2 different links

Hi, I need help. I changed the permalink, after a few days I changed it back to the way it was because it felt a bit long. However, I checked in Google Analytics that the traffic source from Google Ads still sent the customer to that long path. How do visitors get properly redirected? Visitors from Organic and paid are viewing the same article with 2 different links.

  • Hello?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

You can setup redirection to overcome this issue.

Check this KB which will help you with the redirection:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/setting-up-redirections/

    Hope that helps. Thank you.

I don’t have a lot of experience, a lot of links and I can’t redirect them one by one. As far as I remember when I update Permalink in WordPress, visitors will be redirected automatically without having to do it manually.

    Hello,

Depending on the URL Structure you switch from and to, WordPress is known to sometimes redirect the URLs automatically. This doesn’t always happen and you should always consider adding redirection rules to redirect your posts and pages to the new permalink structure. You can use a regex instead of having to add each individual URL to be redirected.

That said, could you please share your previous structure and the new structure of your permalinks so we can try and create a redirection regex that can help you. Also include a sample post URL that we can check.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

I need a little more guidance, namely I have changed the permalink of the Product category, originally it was: iphone-case

    iphone-case/twinkle-ombre-iphone-12-pro-max

Then I changed the Product category permalink to: buy-iphone-case-cheap

    buy-iphone-case-cheap/twinkle-ombre-iphone-12-pro-max

And I changed my mind, restoring it to its original state. However, customers are still accessing 2 different links for the same product. I have “Redirections” enabled in Rankmath but don’t know how to set up the syntax.

    Hello,

You only shared relative URLs and we can’t check the category to confirm this, please share the complete URLs of the affected page(s).

We may also need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

The access your shared is not working. Please check and make sure it works on your end so we can look into this further.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hello,

I was going to check your current redirections and edit them to work as you want but it seems you removed all the redirections. Do you still want me to help you with this?

    Looking forward to help you.

I don’t create any redirects, could you please check for me? I see in Rankmath pro there is redirect integration if I change the fixed link, but it doesn’t apply to my previous changes. So I hope you help me this time. Thanks!
