Robots Meta for Homepage is important? By default, it’s disabled in RankMath…

I think it’s good to have the Homepage indexed from an SEO perspective? Any advice?

NOTE – I have not selected any of Robots Meta from the Global Meta tab as recommended in https://rankmath.com/kb/titles-and-meta/

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention.

The homepage should always set to index and follow because the home page generally shows what the website is all about. Just keep working on the content. You can analyze your page with the help of our SEO-Analyzer tool https://rankmath.com/tools/seo-analyzer/. You can get a detailed report on your website. See what you have done correctly and where your pages are lacking and how to fix them.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

I have tested the tool and it says homepage no index and green checkmark near that. What does that mean? We don’t have to index the homepage?

Also, what about other things like

    Posts
    Pages

Do I need to index it or not

Your documentation (https://rankmath.com/kb/titles-and-meta/) is a bit confusing 🙁

    It says:-

As for recommended settings, we recommend that you keep all the settings disabled. Most of your posts will benefit from indexing, and the ones that you want to de-index can be done so manually in the post settings.

I think you must have misunderstood. It says Your page contains NO “noindex” meta or header.

When you edit your posts, The Rank Math tools show you all the SEO-related settings for your posts. You can adjust the content according to suggestions it provides and your post will be optimized for SEO.

You can learn more about that here:

I am sorry if you feel that way. It says because, by default, all the settings are optimized for better SEO, and if someone changes the settings without knowing the actual meaning, then it might cause an adverse effect on their SEO.

Thank you for the reply. That was helpful and make sense.

    I have another confusing scenario:

    1. An Individual post configuration https://snipboard.io/ulxiKZ.jpg nothing is configured related to indexing
    2. When I check the source of the page – I could see NOIndex and NOFollow tag. https://snipboard.io/bBtrFW.jpg
    3. I have configured in the RM plugin – Tiles & Meta – Posts – https://snipboard.io/xkTzWb.jpg

Trying to understand from where this noindex and nofollow tags are coming in?

    Any tips, please?

    Hello,

    Thank you for the follow-up.

I’ve checked the post you have shared, and it seems that it is already set to index and follow. Here’s a screenshot for your reference:
    https://i.rankmath.com/xh7s5e

It is a pretty common mistake to open the page source and search for a noindex tag to see if the page is marked as noindex or not. In your case, you saw the mention of noindex and assumed that the page is set as noindex. The actual noindex tag is added like this:

    <meta robots="noindex">

But, the one you have shared refers to the No Index option that Rank Math offers in the admin menu bar.
    null

It is pretty easy to mistake the two and how it is supposed to look like.

You can confirm the presence (or absence) of the actual robots noindex tag by opening the page when you’re not logged in to your WordPress dashboard. You can also use incognito mode (Google Chrome), then check for the noindex tag.

    I hope that helps.

Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime if you need further assistance with anything else.

Thank you. It’s more clearer now.

Why it shows no index https://snipboard.io/bBtrFW.jpg can you please explain if that is ok?

    Hello,

The “Noindex” that you are seeing here is the admin bar option which is only visible by the admin as described by my colleague. The noindex indicated in the page source has nothing to do with de-indexing the page.

You can try loading your page to an incognito browser and you should see this doesn’t appear there: https://i.rankmath.com/AAtSd8

Hope that clears the confusion. We are looking forward to helping you.
