  • Hello,

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

    When you install Rank Math on a multisite we always recommend that you install it on the network but only activate it on individual websites.

    That is so options like this can be edited on each site individually.

    Hope this helps clarify your doubts.

    Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    Hello!

    Yes this is exactly what I have done (install on a network level, activate on individual site only) and there is no option to edit the robot.txt on the individual site.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

    In this case can you please make sure that you have the Advanced mode of the plugin enabled?

    Hello!

    Yes it is what I did, unfortunately there is no option to modify the robot.txt on the subsite.

    -> It’s a subsite of the multisite
    -> Rank Math is activated only on this subsite
    -> Advanced mode is on

    —-> No possibility to modify robot.txt for this site in Rank Math options.

    So, do you know how to do it ?

    Also, I have the same question for the sitemap. Is it possible to modify it manually on each subsite ?

    Finally, can you please give me some more technical info on how Rank math works with this 2 files when it comes to a subsite of a multisite network

    -> Does Rank math creates a robot.txt file for each subsite ?
    -> Does Rank Math creates a sitemap.xml file for each subsite ?

    If yes, where are the files ? If not, how does it work ?

    Thank you

    Hello,

    The robots.txt file can only be modified on the main site of the network as all others will inherit the settings from that file.

    The same is true for the .htaccess file.

    This is because the sites on the network don’t have an actual file structure that could support these types of files and this is a limitation of the multisite functionality, not our plugin.

    As for the sitemaps, each subsite will have its very own sitemap that our plugin generates with the posts/pages from the site with the appropriate URLs.

    Both the sitemaps and the robots files when they are handled by Rank Math you won’t see physical files on your website as we generate them on the fly when the page is loaded.

    Hope this helps clarify your doubts.
