The learning mode should allow WordFence firewall to no longer see the user API requests as security issues that need to be blocked, here is WordFence deeper description of the learning mode: https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/learning-mode/

The user role should then be able to work and save meta without issues if this is implemented in the learning mode. If the issue still persists, please let us know and we will be glad to assist you further.
