Remove “Archive” from category in search page title

    Hi!
I would have a simple question: I used Yoast SEO before, that way I imported some data from Yoast when setting up Rank Math.
I still face the issue that my post categories are given an extra “Archive” text in Google Search. I really wanted to get rid of this string, so I checked my “Titles & Meta” settings. I selected my post type (default posts) and its categories tab and set the “Category Archive Titles” string to this: %term% %sep% %sitename%. It didn’t help me: If I search on Google for one of my post categories I still get this form of result in the Google results list: <searched category> “Archive” <sep><my site name>
I also applied the same (%term% %sep% %sitename%) for the searched category manually, but it didn’t help as well.

Do you have any idea what to do?

    Thank you for your support!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Could you please confirm that the pages are crawled by Google after you made the changes?

If you have set %term% %sep% %sitename% already in Rank Math, it might take some time for it to reflect in the search results.

I hope this helps. Looking forward to helping you.

    Dear Anas!

Thank you for your quick reply.

It is best to wait a while for the data to update. Although there has been no change for quite some time…

    Hi!

    Thank you.

Is it not entirely clear whether “Category Archive Titles” also changes the name that appears in the search, or only the title that appears in the title bar in my browser?

If I change this value, it changes immediately in the title bar, but not at all in the search results, even though I’ve been waiting a long time.

This is what I see in my search results:

These are my settings for categories in posts:

And here are my settings for the “Étlap” category itself:

    Thanks for your reply!

    Hello,

Yes, these changes will reflect in the Search Results once Google has crawled the updated page.

Do note that if everything’s fine and Google still decides to show a different title/description for your search keyword, there is nothing you can do as Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and show something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions, please let us know.

    Hi!

It looks like I had to wait more until Google decides to crawl my site as well. I also used your extra plugin instant indexing, which I guess helped my a lot!

Thank you very much for your support and awesome plugins! 🙂
