Regarding the focus keywords, how do they work?

    Hello,

Thanks for the plugin, it looks great.

    I have 2 major questions:

    1. My main focus keyword is always yellow, the 4 others are always red. How do I turn them all into green? Should I include the 5 keywords in different parts of the page? How many times until they get green? I’m trying to rank for low competition keywords I found in other keyword research tools.

and yes, I’ve read this https://rankmath.com/kb/score-100-in-tests/ but I feel like it’s missing some info(the exact steps/requirements) regarding how to make the 5 keywords green.

    2. should each variation become a single keyword? or every keyword automatically includes all variations? let me explain. for example, after some keyword research I decided that I want to rank for “seo boston” “seo in boston” and “boston seo company” . should each one of them become a focus keyword in Rankmath? or selecting “seo boston” will automatically include the other two, or maybe it will only includes “seo in boston”? Please clarify here.

I hope you understood my questions and thanks for your time

    Hello,

To turn them all into green you just need to follow the recommendations the tool gives you. Meanwhile, it is not a must to distribute the keywords along with the content, it is a good thing to do (and also it helps to improve the content readability). About the times you must type them, it is not a fixed amount, it depends on the length of the content, because it depends on the “keyword density”.

Since you are trying to rank for low competition keywords, I suppose they are LSI long-tail keywords (check here if you don’t know about them: https://backlinko.com/hub/seo/lsi). In that case you don’t need to write all the variations.

Following your example, let’s say you have a keyword called “SEO in Boston for dental specialists”. You don’t need to enter also the keyword “SEO in Boston” and so on. Google is smart and understands your content, so he already knows you are talking about SEO in Boston but focused on Dental Specialists.

But you should try to add synonyms as keyword variations, not only because you might rank for those other variations but because you don’t want to do “keyword stuffing” (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66358?hl=en) nor have an article full of your keyword, making it sound unnatural for the reader.

    Hope it helps you.

    Thanks for your reply.

To turn all focus keywords green, where are the recommendations you’re talking about? are you referring to the 4 sections below? they have to be all green too? I have “Basic SEO” all good. “Additional” “Title Readability” and “Content Readability” have errors. All those errors impact the focus keywords colors?

Regarding the example, I understood your point about “SEO in Boston for dental specialists” but it doesnt really apply to my specific example. “SEO in boston” is still inside “SEO in Boston for dental specialists” so your point makes sense. However, my page is not really niche specific, it’s more like general. my question is for example if I use “seo boston” as my focus keyword, will Google understand if someone types “seo in boston” or I need to use the latter as a second focus keyword in Rankmath? and what about “boston seo” Does Google take into consideration all the prepositions and words in different order, or I should use this kind of different variations as different focus keywords.

Thank you for the information regarding the LSI Keywords and synonyms.

    Thanks so much

    Hello,

Yes, I am talking about them. For SEO, you should try to have the first and two sections on green. Title and content readability are more… well, for readability, so they are more focused on getting the user engaged than about ranking the article itself.

my question is for example if I use “seo boston” as my focus keyword, will Google understand if someone types “seo in boston” or I need to use the latter as a second focus keyword in Rankmath? and what about “boston seo” Does Google take into consideration all the prepositions and words in different order, or I should use this kind of different variations as different focus keywords.

Yes, Google takes in consideration all the prepositions, words in a different order and even synonyms and related phrases (like, let’s say, “digital marketing expert in Boston“)

    Hope it helps you.
