Redirects happening that don't exist

#12783
  • Resolved Michael
    Rank Math free

This is a new behavior. Some URLs are being redirected to the home page even though no such redirection exists.
    No other plugin makes redirections.
.htaccess does not contain any redirects.
All existing redirects (there are only 10) are “exact.”
Debug mode displays the redirection; click on Manage All Redirections, get taken to the page with the list of all redirections (not to the one redirection that is happening).

If I deactivate RankMath Redirection, the issue goes away.

    To replicate:
    Go to https://suciestevenson.com/fine-art-paintings/
    Click any Visit now button

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Have you recently modified the the permalinks/slugs of the affected posts? This kind of redirect would happen when you have set the fallback redirection option to redirect to homepage when the slugs have been changed.
I can suggest that you head over to Rank Math > General Settings > Redirections and turn off Auto Post Redirection as shown below:
    IMG

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Thanks for getting back so quickly.
    – No, have not done any permalink/slug changes at all.
    – The image you included appears to show Auto Post Redirect turned on, not off?
I have never had Auto Post Redirect turned on, it has always been turned off.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for getting back to me.

From inspecting the page source, I can see that the affected links do not have the category base and they work as soon as I add “fine-art-paintings” to the link.
Please disable the strip category base option under Rank Math > General Settings > Links if this is enabled.

If the issue persists, please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

Thanks again for the speedy reply.
Strip Category Base was not enabled.
What I did was to edit each button so that the link includes the parent page, e.g. https://suciestevenson.com/fine-art-paintings/the-moon-gallery/
This resolves the issue, although I really wish I understood why it came up… it was working fine.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for the follow up.

I am glad that you were able to rectify this. It is however strange that the links stopped working on their own.
Please let us know if the issue pops up again so that we can investigate further.

    Thank you.
