redirects

Why do I have URLs like these? Especially the first one is strange and I can’t redirect to the missing page.

What type of redirect do I use? Does it make sense to add the 410 code if I put the fallback behavior on the home page?

I can’t redirect to categories that have had /categoy/ removed with Rank Math. Even if I disable all plugins I get Rank Math. For example /games/puzzles/. It should redirect to /puzzle/. But the 5 types of source URL commands don’t work.

  • Hello, I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’re facing with the redirects. It seems like you’re experiencing some challenges with setting up the redirects and choosing the appropriate redirect type.

Regarding the first URL you’ve shared, it looks like you’re encountering some unexpected redirects. To address this, you can refer to our guide on how to identify the root cause of the issue and fix these random URLs redirecting. You can find the guide here.

As for the second URL and the use of the 410 code, if you want to convey to search engines that the content has been deleted, you can serve a 410 HTTP status on the page. However, if you prefer to have a fallback behavior on the home page, you can consider using a 301 redirect instead. This will redirect users and search engines to the home page while preserving the SEO value of the original page.

Regarding the issue with redirecting categories that have had “/category/” removed with Rank Math, it seems like you’re trying to use regex redirections. If you’re having trouble with this, I recommend checking out our guide on how to remove a particular word from the URL using regex redirections. You can find the tutorial here.

If you continue to experience difficulties after following these guides, please assign this ticket to a human agent for further assistance. Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support.

    1. Your homepage is showing on the 404 monitor because someone (most likely a bot) is trying to visit https://yourdomian.com/https://yourdomain.com. You do not have to worry or take any action. Read more here.

    2. You do not have to take any action.

    3. We can see that this redirect is actually working as you mentioned. /games/puzzles/ is correctly redirecting to /puzzle/. Here’s a screenshot:

Please clear your browser cache and try again.

Thank you for choosing Rank Math

I added some redirects with hosting. Others don’t work at all. Try /category/games/sports/. The redirect goes to the homepage, not to the /sports/ category.

    Hello,

We didn’t find this redirection rule in the staging website you shared. Still, we can see that you’re using the Strip Category Base option, so technically, any redirection from /category/games/sports/ will be interfered with by that option.

To redirect /category/games/sports/ to /sports/, you should create a redirect from /games/sports/ to /sports/. When a user visits /category/games/sports/, the Strip Category Base option will redirect them to /games/sports/, and from there Rank math Redirection module will redirect them to /sports/.

We tried this on your staging site, and it is working fine:

We hope this helps clarify the issue. If you have any other questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out again.
