Redirection Chain

Hi there, just a confirmation about Redirects.
One of my sites has already several years, and with the time the URL structure was changed a couple of times.
    https://www.opcoesbinarias.biz/
In order to avoid to create Redirection chain that Google does not like, I can use this way?
As far as I understand, this means that if I set up several old URLs, all of them will go to the final URL without making a chain?
Another question: The “Ignore Case” should be clicked or not?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

Yes creating a new redirection in the plugin will redirect from the source to destination without any other stops.

URLs are case sensitive and thus if you are sure that the URLs don’t have an uppercase version that goes to a different destination then you can click on the ignore case toggle.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

When I am not sure about having or not a version with uppercase, or in the case the visitor uses uppercase, I should leave it clicked or not?
And does that affect the speed on the redirection to be done or not?

    Hi Rui,

In 99% of the cases, leaving the case sensitive box unchecked is your best bet.

Moreover, after 5-6 months, the 301s lost its purpose as far as Google is concerned. They know a URL has already been permanently redirected so all the link juice as already been passed to the final URL. At that point, you only want to keep the 301 in place IF actual visitors are still visiting the old URLs.

Redirects are general a few MS slower but unless you are using a very slow server – the difference is negligible.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hi Todd,

Thank you very much for your answer, now I fully understand.

I would like to ask you something that came up to my mind with your answer.

My site has affiliate links to some partners.

And I use the plugin pretty links to WordPress.

The doubt I got, from your words “after 5-6 months, the 301s lost its purpose as far as Google is concerned. They know a URL has already been permanently redirected so all the link juice as already been passed to the final URL” are:

In order not to lose my link juice from my pretty link (mysite.com/pretty that redirects to affiliatesite.com/landingpage I should not use a 301, but a 302 or a 307?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

For the affiliate link redirections, it is recommended to set them to 301 as the default since they don’t change often.
If this is not the case and they change often then you can stick to a 302.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
