  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

Please check if you have enabled the option to redirect attachments. If it’s enabled, adding other redirections for the image files might not work as the redirect option is prioritized first. You may have to disable this option and then add the redirections for the files you wish to redirect.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Right. I do not want to remove this option as I prefer to redirect attachments. Is there a workaround?

Looks like ALL files with extensions are not redirected anymore, even those that I had in my redirections and previously worked well, including .pdf, .htm, .zip, etc.

This is frustrating. I’m now getting a ton of 404 errors.

    Hello,

I think we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Rank Math can only redirect something that is handled by WordPress. If 404s to your jpg, zip, etc.. files are handled by your web server instead of WordPress (if you are not seeing a 404 template of WP, that means it is not handled by WP), then those extensions cannot be redirected using Rank Math and you will need to add redirects to those using .htaccess.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Right, but…

It worked before and now it’s not working.

So either something changed, the server changed, WP 5.5 changed, or Rank Math did.

If anyone has a tip on who to do this beyond .htaccess, I’m all ears. If not, I’m going to use Redirection by John Godley and deactivate RM’s redirections.

    Hello,

We are sorry for the delay.

It seems like the redirects are working now. Could you please confirm if these are added using Rank Math or using .htaccess?

    We checked wp-content/uploads/Fortin-09-40-20-006-1-7x7.jpg

    Let us know.

    Yes, thank you.

    Hello,

Do you wish to close this thread?

If you have any further question(s), please let us know. Thank you.

Hello, this has stopped working once again. Can you tell me what you’ve done to allow the redirection of files like images nd PDFs? That way I don’t have to keep bugging you. Thanks.

    Hello,

We did not do anything last time. They started working on their own.

I think your web host is making changes to the way 404s on image files are handled on your website.

If the 404s on your images are set to be handled by your server, then the redirects you add using Rank Math will not work. If they are set to be handled by WordPress – then the redirects will work.

What it means is that if you see your theme’s 404 page when you land on a 404 image file – then Rank Math’s redirects will work.

Otherwise, you will have to add these redirects using .htaccess.

    Hope that helps.

    Hello,

Since we did not hear back from you for 15 days, we are assuming that you found the solution. We are closing this support ticket.

If you still need assistance or any other help, please feel free to open a new support ticket, and we will be more than happy to assist.

    Thank you.
