I did send this already to Bhanu, but it’s of interest to every user:

    – When you go to “Sitemap settings” and use “Exclude posts” (“This option **applies** to all posts types including posts, pages, and custom post types.”)
and (at the moment with a LOT of labour) you added all the id’s you wish to exlude from the sitemap (that thankfully RM auto-sends to google and such)
because you don’t want google and such to discover and index those id’s
then they ARE excluded from the sitemaps just fine
(except the blog post summary page which oddly gets ALWAYS included nonetheless)

    – BUT if you too thought that RM now excludes the id’s from the sitemap AND thus also from being indexed: NO.

Currently you MUST go into each post, page, and custom post type INDIVIDUALLY (hundreds in our case) and tick all desired boxes under “Advanced” > “Robots Meta”. Ie “Noindex”.

The (otherwise brilliant) “bulk edit” feature of RM does not allow you to bulk-set the noindex tickmarks.
If the mods read this: Can you rethink this entire process please?

At least all readers here now know: Don’t rely on your long list of entered id’s to be excluded from the sitemap: RM auto-sets every single post, page, and custom-post-type to: <meta name=”robots” content=”index,follow”/>
(which really shouldn’t be at all, only the opposite: the NO-follow ones)

So now you end up with google console errors or inconsistency: posts etc not included in sitemap but nonetheless set to “index”.
(which IMHO makes no sense anyways, or do I miss sth?)

It’s discoveries like this that have made RM already the TOP SEO plugin IMHO! (I switched from AIOSEO and then from SEOPRESS (which was even worse).

    ******************************************
Thanks RM team: this is an AWESOME plugin!
    ******************************************

(not that it has helped us getting traffic back just yet: AIOSEO didn’t even let me optimize each post, so now I have to go through thousands(!) of posts/pages and optimize each…! First, setting the right “Focus keyword”. I had never heard of that, lol)

    Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. I am so glad that you like the plugin.

The exclude feature is only meant to exclude your set posts from the Sitemap files. The individual robots meta is still followed, however.

We will see about adding a bulk edit feature for this down the line and we really appreciate you bringing it up.

Thank you and do let us know if you need help with anything else or if you have any other feedback you want to share.
